In a very special intimate show, singer Marcela Bovio (known for her work with MaYaN, Ayreon, Stream of Passion, Dark Horse White Horse) celebrates 20+ years of musical career by singing a collection of songs from her back catalogue together with pianist Erik van Ittersum. This will be the singer’s first solo show after the pandemic and recovering from life threatening illness, so definitely a night to remember!

Marcela Bovio

was born on October 17th, 1979 in Monterrey, Mexico; a city up the northeast of the country. I had a very normal childhood: school, games and lots of candy

I guess my musical career begun when my godfather recommended my parents to enrol me and my sister Diana in a musical academy, when we were quite young; I think I must have been around 5 years old. We sang, played the recorder, studied music notation and rhythm; later on I picked up the concert flute. From that point I’ve always been surrounded by music and became really interested in singing and performing.
My first performing experience must have been in music school, during one of those student performances where all parent’s have to sit through 5 different groups of students to see their kids 🙂 One of my early performances that I remember fondly, though, was with my elementary school choir; I got to sing a tiny solo part, I was so excited!

When I was 17 I started playing cover songs with friends. I started off as the bass player of the band, until the guys found out my singing was much better than my bass playing and promoted me to lead vocalist 🙂 Around that time I started taking violin and classical singing lessons, and became interested in alternative rock, progressive rock and metal. I’ve always loved melancholic music, so I was very inspired by gothic and doom bands. Later on I became interested in jazz, post rock, world music, and began taking jazz harmony lessons. The past few years I’ve had the opportunity of expanding my vocal knowledge by immersing myself in the Estill Voice Training and Complete Vocal Technique methods.

Through the years I’ve participated in several recordings, and played with a huge amount of amazingly talented musicians. I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to tour around the world and see so many beautiful places! Nothing beats playing live, in my opinion; not only you can share a wonderful moment with the audience, you’re also able to communicate with your fellow musicians in a way that’s completely unbeatable.
