On this fifth anniversary we dive deep into the past, present and future of the almighty Riff. Over the weekend we present an eclectic mix of bands ranging from extraterestrial spacerock and hendrixian motör funk to kick-ass metal and everything in between. Beware, cause the blues is lurking from the shadow and never far away on this edition.

Lord Bishop Rocks (USA/DE)

LORD BISHOP ROCKS for sure is the most exciting and musically gifted rock trio of the 21st century. They are mixing their brand of 70’s influenced Hardrock, Funk, Blues, Jazz, Reggae and Punk – meshing it into a sound they call Hendrixian Motör Funk.

Lord Bishop can look back on a concert career spanning over 4000 dates in over 44 countries on 4 continents, which earned him and his band the reputation of probably the most extravagant rock trio of the 21st century. He always knew how to convince his audience with raw energy and his striking nature. In this long career he shared the stage with his great musical role models Living Color, Johnny & Edgar Winter, Nazareth, Eric Burdon and many other great rockers.

Lord Bishop Rocks have lifted this stylistic template to new stratospheric levels. Imagine Beatlesque melodies, Sabbath’s heaviness and James Brown’s funk all rolled into one. What is for sure is that sooner than later Lord Bishop Rocks will be rock music’s most well known and sought after pure rock trio in the history of the music world.

Deep stacking is not Lord Bishop’s style. When asked about his age, he likes to answer “I am young enough to rock but old enough to know how!”Just like its external appearance its performance is also on stage: large, almost immense, inimitable, determined and simply and poignantly unforgettable. Lord Bishop Rocks combine funk, rock, blues and a hint of reggae to create and emotionally charged mix that beeps deeply soaked in black voodoo.

Kozmotron (BE)

KOZMOTRON is a Belgian spacerock band on a mission since earth year 2013. The sonic starcruiser Kozmotron was groovily truckin along on its voyage beyond event horizon. It was just passing by an obscure body in the SK system, referred to by the inhabitants as planet “Earth”, when for reasons unknown, the ship’s diatonic propulsion unit suffered catastrophic failure. The kozmonauts found themselves stranded on a weird blue planet, without any means of phoning home. Kozmotron’s releases are of alien proportions and their gigs easily go beyond earthly dimensions of time. Support your local alien underground!

Requiem Blues (UK)

Emerging from the fertile banks of the Mersey Estuary, Requiem Blues are spearheading the new wave of no nonsense British hard rock. Blending the spirit and sound of Budgie with the street level gloom of early Pentagram, this Scouse power trio are the real deal. The band have created something that sounds fresh but still has a grounding in the heady daze of the golden age of heavy rock.

Earthbong (DE)

EARTHBONG is a three-piece doom band from Kiel, Germany. The band was formed in 2018 and released three albums and one EP so far. Earthbong are heading towards the riff-filled land with their unique blend of doom, metal and sludge: “They’re like a Bongzilla-Sleep-Milkshake. But they get it. They are their own thing.” (Mike Scheidt, YOB). Since 2020 Earthbong are working with french underground label Black Farm Records for the release of their records.

Earthbong shared the stage with the ancestors of the bong metal genre like Bongzilla, Bongripper and Belzebong and also with heavy/doom legends such as The Obsessed, Unida and more. With more than 70 shows over the past years the band earned a reputation as one of the heaviest and best live acts within the underground doom scene. The band has played festivals like Stoned From The Underground (DE), Rock in Bourlon (FR), Stick and Stone (AT), Berlin Swamp Fest (DE), Hoflärm Open Air (DE) and more. In 2025 Earthbong headed towards Iceland’s Reykja Doom Festival and to Australia for two weeks of heavy riffs in a land bong under.

Mystery Dudes (NO)

Fuzzed out pedal worshipping stoner punk out of Oslo, Norway. Mystery Dudes will melt your face of with their eclectic, fuzzed out blend of stoner rock, punk and heavy psych. Regardless of style, the sonic output is always heavy, hypnotic and hits you in all the right places at once!
